              2011 International Symposium on Ethical Leadership Successfully Held at  


                 University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, P.R. China    


     Sponsored by University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, the Public Integrity Journal,  International Society for Ethical Governance, the Chinese Public Administration Journal, and Research Group of Integrity of Governance of VU University Amsterdam in the Netherlands, hosted by School of Political Science and Public Administration of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, 2011 International Symposium on Ethical Leadership was successfully held at University of Electronic Science and Technology of China on October 22-24, 2011.         


                       


     The theme of 2011 International Symposium on Ethical Leadership —Ethical Leadership: Issues, Challenges and Opportunities. Focusing on the theme, the 2011 ISEL brought together an array of authors and topics drawn from many countries and attracted international interess in and inquiries from scholars and Ethical Leadership practitioners in P.R. China, America, Australia, South Africa, the Netherlands and Japan. The 2011 International Symposium on Ethical Leadership was truly international.  


     Ms. BAO Jing, Deputy Secretary-General of Chinese Public Administration Society and Editor-in-chief of Chinese Public Administration Journal, Professor ZHU Xiao-ning, Dean of School of Political Science and Public Administration of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Professor James Bowman, Florida State University and Editor in Chief of Public Integrity Journal, Professor Donald C. Menzel, President of Ethics Management International, Professor ZHANG Kang-zhi, Remin University of China, Dr. L.W.J.C. (Leo) Huberts, Professor of VU University Amsterdam of the Netherlands served as the Conference Chairmen. Professor ZHAO Shu-rong, School of Political Science and Public Administration of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Professor ZHANG Zhen, School of Political Science and Public Administration of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China served as the Executive Chairmen of 2011 ISEL.       


                                    


     In the opening ceremony, Professor Wang Hou-jun, Vice President of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, delivered opening remarks. On behalf of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, He said the University of Electronic Science and Technology (UESTC) not only develops electronic science and technology, but is also actively engaged in developing social science and  humanity with public administration as  one of key development disciplines at UESTC. 2011ICPA and 2011 ISEL, as the platforms and bridges for academic exchanges, have made UESTC's access to international partnerships and collaborations globally both in the field of Public Administration and Ethics. He also said that 2011 ISEL holding at UESTC provides us an opportunity to learn more from all delegates and can benefit UESTC’s development in Ethics and leadership with all delegates’ on-going supports.             


                             


      Professor James Bowman from  Florida State University, Professor Donald C. Menzel, President of Ethics Management International, Professor Leo Huberts from VU University Amsterdam delivered opening remarks in the opening ceremony and expressed sincere thanks to the sponsors and the host.  The keynote speeches of Conscious Deliberation and Subconscious Behaviour by  Professor James Bowman from Florida State University, USA; Reconsidering and Expanding the Ethical Codes for Public Administrators: Are There Universal Principles? by Professor James H. Svara from Arizona State University, USA and The Rebuilding of the Value System in Social Transformation by Professor SHI Rui-jie from Tianjin Normal University were delivered separately  focusing on the theme of Ethical Leadership: Issues, Challenges and Opportunities.      


     On October 24, 2011 ISEL was successfully concluded by one of the ISEL chairs  Professor ZHU Xiao-ning, Dean of School of Political Science and Public Administration and one of the ISEL executive chairs  Professor Zhao Shurong  at UESTC.
